In response to University of North Dakota student leaders’ requests for greater access to the Chester Fritz Library, UND Provost Thomas DiLorenzo and Wilbur Stolt, director of libraries at UND, plan to extend the library’s current hours of operation.
Starting today, Friday, Jan. 24, the new extended times for the Chester Fritz Library will be 7:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays. Only the main floor – the “fishbowl” reading and review room, the computer area and study tables — will be open during the extended hours of operation.
UND Student Government, acting on student concerns about the availability of study spaces on campus when the main library is closed, worked with the Provost’s Office and Stolt to establish the new hours. The student effort was led by Molly Burke, UND Student Government Greek Housing senator and chief executive officer of Kappa Alpha Theta.
The Provost’s Office has agreed to fund the plan to make the extended hours possible, Burke said.
