During this week’s Potato Bowl festivities, the University of North Dakota Alumni Association & Foundation will lead a fundraising effort in support of the UND Cheer and Dance teams.
Alumni & friends may pledge gifts to the Cheer and Dance Teams by texting, “UND (space) pledge amount (space) supporter’s name” to 56512. A member of the Cheer or Dance team will then follow up via phone call to collect payment information. Thanks to the generous support of a UND alum, pledges to the UND Cheer and Dance teams will be matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling every gift’s impact! Gifts of any amount are welcome.
The University Cheer and Dance Program is made up of Cheer (football, volleyball, and basketball), Dance and Hockey Cheer. As many as 60 student-athletes participate in the cheer program each year, committing two to five days a week for practice, events and game-day performances. Student-athletes are responsible for all expenses except coaches’ salaries, leaving them to either raise funds for or pay out of their own pockets for apparel (uniforms, pom-poms, shoes, hair accessories, warm-ups, T-shirts, ice skates etc.), travel (to away games, competitions, recruiting events, camps), choreographers and competition fees.
“When I took this position in April, my immediate goal was to reduce the cost each student has to pay to participate,” UND Cheer and Dance teams Coach Breanna Linert said. “I’ve leaned on Athletics and the Alumni Association & Foundation for their support, and they understand the need to represent UND at the same level as other D-I schools. Together, we can take this program to that level.”
Text “UND (space) pledge amount (space) supporter’s name” (example: UND 25 John Doe) to 56512 at any time from now through Saturday’s Potato Bowl. Text to Pledge promotional messaging will occur during Friday’s Booster Luncheon and during the Potato Bowl Parade, Tailgating, and Potato Bowl football game.
The UND Alumni Association & Foundation has a membership of more than 115,000 graduates, former students and friends, and conducts a comprehensive program of alumni relations throughout the nation. The nonprofit organization raises and manages funds that secure a strong future for UND. With total assets over $302.3 million, it is recognized among the most successful independent organizations of any public college or university of UND’s size in the nation.
