UND Receives Grand Forks Mayor’s ‘Green Business Showcase Award’ For Environmentally Friendly Efforts

The University of North Dakota has been named the latest recipient of Mayor Michael R. Brown’s Green Business Showcase Award. The award is given to Grand Forks businesses that are doing their part to help make our city green by reducing waste and enhancing energy efficiency in our community.

UND has been working since 2000 to cut down on energy consumption, improve air quality in buildings and other environmentally friendly efforts.

One of its biggest projects has been with both indoor and outdoor lighting, that has saved the University – and taxpayers – millions of dollars.

“The University of North Dakota is a tremendous partner with the City,” said Grand Forks Mayor Michael R. Brown. “I hope that others will take note of the investment the University has taken to insure the future of Grand Forks, and look to what they can do to follow suit.”

UND will be acknowledged at tonight’s City Council meeting and featured on the Green Business Showcase webpage at www.grandforksgov.com. An accompanying video about UND’s efforts can also be seen on GFTV Cable Channel 2.
