The University of North Dakota and the UND Conflict Resolution Center invite students, faculty, staff and community members to celebrate International Day of Peace, Friday, Sept. 21.
On that day, the Center will be hosting the “Whit Balloons for Peace” event at noon behind the Chester Fritz Library, where everyone will share a moment of peace as the balloons are released.
International Peace Day was established in 1981 to honor and strengthen the ideals and practices of peace.
In 2001, the United Nations, with the Peace One Day organization, passed a bill to establish International Day of Peace as a global cease-fire day.
The goal is to have International Day of Peace become a standard across the globe in hopes it will become self-sustaining.
