North Dakota Spirit Campaign For UND Nears $300 Million Goal

“Passion” was the theme last Thursday as about 50 people gathered in University Place lobby for the UND Alumni Association’s annual meeting.

“The passion of our alumni is incredible. It’s one of the very special things we get to see daily,” said DeAnna Carlson Zink, ’86, UND Alumni Association & Foundation associate executive vice president and chief development officer.

Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Tim O’Keefe, ’71, echoed that sentiment, saying the passion and dedication of alumni and friends have made the North Dakota Spirit Campaign for UND successful as it enters its final 18 months.

The goal of the campaign, the largest capital campaign in North Dakota’s history, is to direct $300 million to UND’s students, educators, programs and facilities. To date, the campaign has raised more than $271 million for the benefit of UND.

Recent gifts to UND through the campaign include an endowment from Dr. Robert, ’48, HON ’02, and Charlene Kyle, which will support the Dr. Robert and Charlene Kyle School of Medicine and Health Science Lab Equipment Fund, and a significant planned gift from Sherman Hoganson, ’40, to the Alumni Excellence in Accounting Endowment.

Recent gifts also include a contribution from Monica Musich, ’82, whose investment will name the Valley Dairy Conference Room in the under-construction Gorecki Alumni Center. Meeting attendees toured the building – expected to be finished in August – which will house UND Admissions staff, serve as a campus welcome center, and showcase UND heritage and alumni achievements.

“It’s a building for the University,” O’Keefe said.
