Gay Rights Activist Judy Shepard To Speak At UND Monday

Judy Shepard, gay rights activist and mother of Matthew Shepard who was murdered in Laramie, Wyo., in 1998, will speak at the University of North Dakota on Monday, March 7, from 7:15-9:30 p.m., at the Memorial Union Ballroom.

Shepard’s death generated international headlines and focused attention on crimes against gays. His parents Judy and Dennis founded the Matthew Shepard Foundation to carry on their son’s legacy by working for causes he championed, which include gay and lesbian equality and helping to prevent hate crimes.

The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by UND Housing, the Association of Residence Halls, the Tunnel of Oppression and the University Program Council.
