UND Engineering Announces LEGO Robotics Tournament Awards

A team from Bismarck’s Miller Elementary School took top honors at this year’s FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) robotics competition held last weekend at the University of North Dakota.

The win qualifies the team – called the ECMgineers —to compete at the FIRST® World Festival in St. Louis in April. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) encourages youth interest and participation in science and technology.

The competition brought 30 teams of 9-14 year olds from across North Dakota and Minnesota to UND to show off their science, engineering and technology skills at the sixth annual competition on Feb. 5.

In this year’s robotics and research challenge, “Body Forward,” teams explored the world of biomedical engineering to discover innovative ways to repair injuries, overcome genetic predispositions, and maximize the body’s potential.

Students, their friends and families, converged at the UND Memorial Union for the North Dakota competition.  UND faculty, community leaders, and engineering students assisted the competitors and served as judges and referees.
