The Big Read presents oral history workshop Nov. 4 at UND’s Chester Fritz Library

The University of North Dakota’s Elwyn B. Robinson Department of Special Collections at the Chester Fritz Library will present “Telling Your Story,” a family and oral history workshop, as part of its celebration of “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in the Chester Fritz Library, East Asian Room.

The presentation will be led by Curt Hanson, head of Special Collections, who has a personal interest in military history – particularly as told by the men and women who served. While Tim O’Brien’s book is a work of fiction inspired by his wartime experience, there is historical value in people sharing their personal journeys. Several self-published memoirs will be discussed as well as techniques for recording your own stories.

For more information on this event, please contact Kristen Borysewicz, UND Librarian, at 777-4647. The Big Read in Grand Forks will take place Oct. 14 through Nov. 14. You can view a full calendar of events for The Big Read in Grand Forks at www.neabigread.org.
